Musanze, the Rwanda’s most mountainous district.
Musanze is located at the foothills of Virunga. Musanze contains the largest part of the Volcanoes National Park. It is one of the biggest city for tracking the mountain Gorillas. Musanze is one of the cities that have biggest percentage of mountain Gorillas and so the final destination for most of the tourists. It’s also the easier and safest area for accommodation for tourists.
On top of being a tourist attraction, Musanze also has fertile soils that attracts agriculture. Trekking mountain gorillas is the most incredible experience at the foot hills of virunga. As you hike the mountains through the green vegetation, you make way through and reach the bamboo forests with Golden monkeys. How to get to Volcanoes National Park?
To reach your splendid and prominent National Park, its advisable to spend your night in Musanze since the permit owners have to reach in Kining Headquaters by 7:00Am. Make your transfers from Kigali airport to Musanze using Road transport provided by us, Crystal Car Hire. However, there are no public transport means from Musanze to Kinigi therefore, hire us for better services. Time to visit the Park.
Rwanda can be visited any time of the year in this 2020. Though for the peak season, the tickets or permits are on a high demand incase of trekking for mountain Gorillas. The months from June to September and then December to February are the best for trekking mountain gorillas. This is because, in these months it doesn’t rain heavily.
Booking for a trip in Rwanda, is preferable to be done in 3-4 months. However, for more fun and also to have time to associate with other people from different parts of the world, its preferable to be done in the mentioned months.
Therefore, book a permit in the months between June to September with either a tour or travel company.

Other tourist attractions in Volcanoes National Park.
- Golden Monkeys.
The second attracted in the volcanoes is the golden monkeys. You can also enjoy the company of these monkeys in Mgahinga park in Uganda. These are rare endangered species. With the help of the tour guides he/she will help you identify them in the trees. They easily be seen due to the golden color at the back. They feed near their habitants. As you move through the bamboo, they will be noticed and feed on fruits.
2. Twin scenic lakes.
The twin lakes are Burera and Ruhondo. They are located between Musanze and Uganda boarder. A boat ride gives a spectacular view to these While at Ruhondo, visitors hire for a boat to the lake cruise. During the movement, you notice the different colored birds in the sky such as herons and kingfisher among others. 3. Virunga Volcanoes.
The Virunga Volcanoes mainly consists of Mt Karisimbi, Mt Bisoke and Mt Sabyinyo that are all available for trekking. Mt. Karisimbi is the tallest of all. Hiking these volcanoes gives a prominent view of the local communities and their economic activities such as raring cattle and practicing agriculture.
Is it possible to travel in Volcanoes National park?
Yes, on condition you have a valid or current driver license from another country or an international driving permit. If your permit is not English, then an accurate translation is required. This permit is valid for 3 months in Rwanda.
