Day 1. Transfer to Lake Mburo National park.

On this first day, Take to the waiya bay/Nakiwogo on lake Victoria with the ferry or alternatively take the kasubi branch-off and head to Nakawuku-kasanje a road that connects you to the main Kampala highway. Through the scenic and exciting village towns, will bring you to the equator that is a stopover to many self drive travelers for a coffee break and sightseeing. There is a demonstration here if you want to know what happens at the equator with the “Did you know” funnels. You can pay 10,000ugx or $3 for the experiment. You will later proceed through the Masaka and many different towns with great scenic plains just before you arrive at the “Akageti” the first entrance to Lake Mburo National park. Very much advisable to use this entrance gate into the park for chances of the shy and great Eland antelope. This is one of the smallest parks in Uganda with the highest density of animals per square kilometer. The 230kms should take you about 5hours from Entebbe.

Accommodation; 1 night at the Eagles nest lodge or Rwakobo rock. These are Eco-friendly and nice lodges nested on the top of a hill and rocks with spectacular views of the Park

Day 2.  A drive to the second deepest lake in Africa, Lake Bunyonyi

After a nice breakfast, you could opt for an early game drive, a walking safari, horseback safaris and bike ride just before you checkout from your lodge. You can later drive south through the “land of the milk” mbarara town and through the terraced rolling hills and later arrive to the “small Switzerland of Uganda” the kabale town. It is more 8kms off kabale-kisoro road for some of the best spectacular sceneries and calmness of the lake. Swimming, boat rides, canoeing, batwa community experience and diving are possible here. This 260kms will take you about 6hours depending on the nature of driving.

Accommodation; Lake Bunyonyi overland camp or the Byoona Amagara on the island offer spevtacular and calm nights on the lake.

Day 3. Lake Bunyonyi and transfer to Bwindi forest National park

If you manage to do the lake Bunyonyi activities and your done by 11am, you can decide to drive south to kisoro town and later to rushaga for the Gorilla experience. Through the scenic hills and windy roads to kisoro town, you can opt to visit Lake Mutanda or go for the coffee tour just near Lake Mutanda. You will then start to drive up to Rushaga side just next to the gorilla families.

Accommodation; Gorilla valley Lodge or Mutanda Lake Resort. These are a combination of midrange, budget nested on hills overlooking the forest and the mutanda peninsula respectively

Day 4. The mountain Gorilla encounter.

On this day you will be in for once in a lifetime wildlife encounter, the Mountain Gorilla experience. You will be tracking the Rushaga or Nkuringo groups situated south of the mist covered rainforest inhabiting 450 half of the world’s endangered mountain Gorillas. With packed lunches you will descend and get enveloped into the thick mist forest searching for the great apes. It is an awesome experience getting up-close and personal with human closest relatives.

Accommodation; Gorilla valley Lodge or Rushaga camp. These are a combination of midrange and budget nested on hills overlooking the forest.

Day 5. Transverse to the ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National park

Through the great landscapes of kihihi and through the eye catching villages and local markets, you will definitely be headed to one of the most Bio-dersity National Parks and to the southern sector for the Elusive tree climbing lions. This 180kms distance should take you about 7hours and getting there in the afternoon should be the perfect time to wonder into the fig trees searching for the kings of the jungle calmly hitching the huge horizontally positioned branches. A variety of other wildlife include the Topi, waterbucks, hyenas, leopards elephants, buffalos and a variety of bird species.

Accommodation; @the river ishasha or ishasha jungle lodge. Either of the two lodges gives a perfect definition of wilderness experience. Crafted nice cottages overlooking the hippo thronged Ishasha River.

Day 6. Game drive and transfer to Northern Queen Elizabeth National Park

Through the great plains of Rwenshama and the ishasha wildlife sector with a great view of the maramagambo forest and Lake Edward, this 70kms stretch should lead you to kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Best option would be heading to the Mweya peninsula for the Kazinga channel boat cruise at 2pm, 3pm or 4pm. make sure you book in advance just before you head for the cruise and get the boarding ticket. Schools of hippos, buffalos, elephants are a first sighting even before you board. The boat brings you even more closely to these water quenching animals on the 40km water connection between Lake George and Lake Edward.

Accommodation; The bush lodge for budget and midrange or Mweya safari lodge for upgrade. These two lodges offer exceptional wildlife experience. Both strategically located facing the Kazinga channel with great views.

Day 7. Kasenyi Game drive and transfer to Kibale forest National Park

Enjoy the morning on an incredible self drive safari in one of the oldest and bio-diverse game reserve in Uganda. This is mainly a home to the cat family, Antelopes and the Big 4. The great views and game break at the kasenyi craters are not exceptional. You may opt to go for the chimpanzee tracking in the kyambura Gorge or still go for the salt mine tours in katwe and a visit the lake covered in pink colour of the flamingos. You may decide to have lunch at the bush Lodge and later drive to the Kibale forest National Park through the scenic craters of kasenda and impressive local markets. The 160 kms should take you about 2 ½ hrs to your lodge.

Accommodation; The kibale forest camp for a comfortable safari tent or the Primate lodge for upgrade all nested and enveloped by huge and tall forest trees and just surrounded by nature.

Day 8. The chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi swamp walk.

Kibale forest is a canopy and mist enveloped rainforest also referred to as the Primate capital of the world. With over 13 primate species, Kibale is home to the closest relatives of human and a sublime of bird watching activity. Chimpanzee trekking is the main activity carried out twice a day either in morning or in the afternoon. The Bigodi swamp walk is another protected eco-tourism wetland where a number of primates including 5 types of monkeys are found. It is also home to the great blue turraco, a blue beautiful bird you don’t want to miss. The nearby tea plantation also combine a visit to the Scenic and incredible crater lake views and local tours.

Accommodation; The kibale forest camp for a comfortable tent or the Primate lodge for upgrade all nested and enveloped by huge and tall forest trees surrounded by nature.

Day 9. Transfer to the Hioma town.

Enjoy The typical African roads on a self drive bumby but shortest road enroute Murchison falls and that’s why we break it for you. Through the exciting and entertaining local villages, through the roadside markets and past the great sceneries of banana and tea plantations, you will arrive in the oil rich town of hoima. You can opt to visit this town and the local markets or decide to relax at the comfortable Kontik hotel. This 218kms should take you about 7hours drive maintaining 50kms/hr.

Accomodations; Kontik Hotel. A well established and simple hotel that offers a great relaxation away from the noise of Hoima business town.

Day 10 Enroute Murchison Falls National Park.

Enjoy another exciting drive through the gravy and murram road and through masindi town that will lead you to the southern entrance of the game reserve. Characterised by woodland, Dotted by acacia and fig trees with a catchable and silent green rainforest, the 60kms stretch that stands out for a game drive with a variety of wild animal species is un-beatable. The birdlife in the budongo forest stretch is irresistible that includes the rare Abyssinian ground hornbill. A visit to the top of the Murchison falls 12kms off the main road to paraa is worth the adventure. With the vehicle you shall cross the River Nile and head North through the tangi Gate. You would want to do a short evening game drive on your way out to Fort Murchison.

Accommodation; Fort Murchison for a budget and comfortable safari tent or you can opt for an upgrade at the Paraa safari Lodge.

Day 11. Morning Game drive and Afternoon Launch cruise to the Bottom of the Falls.

Another fun filled day of a self drive safari in Uganda’s biggest National game reserve. You will on this day enter from the Northern gate and preferably use the Delta track through Pakuba that will take you through to the wild savannah plains and great views of the Lake Albert. Oh, don’t pass by the dilapidated and old building on pakuba lodge. That is a den and a place to spot the leopard. Well, try your luck there. How about make a bush breakfast at the hippo pool? You may opt for that. You may need to carry a packed lunch box or have lunch at the paraa lodge and take the afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. Maybe you could opt for the delta boat cruise to the Albert Nile.

Accommodation; Fort Murchison for a budget and comfortable safari tent or you can opt for an upgrade at the Paraa safari Lodge.

Day 12. Transfer to Sipi falls in kapchorwa

Enjoy another day of self drive car rental in Uganda on an excellent, new and well surfaced road to sipi. Through the war torn northern Uganda, Great exciting and interesting local markets and local life not forgetting the spectacular sceneries as you approach the Mount Elgon. This 430kms should take you about 6 hours and about 8hrs with lunch and washroom stops. You may opt for the nyero rock paintings in Kumi or spectacular sunset dinner if you arrive early enough.

Accommodation; Noah’s ark hotel or Sipi river lodge. Both located with great views of the sipi falls as well as the breathtaking and endless karamoja plains.

Day 13. The Sipi River walk and Transfer to Mbale.

Another exciting self driving in Uganda in the hills of mountain Elgon. You may opt for the sipi river walk, public male circumcision ceremony, coffee tours or visit the chebonet falls. Another exciting self drive car rental awaits you as you descend down the hills of mountain Elgon to Mbale town. Distance 56km for 1hr 20mins

Day 14 Transfer to the Jinja, the tourism capital of east Africa

Enjoy a spectacular and relaxed late morning self drive through the local atmosphere of Uganda to jinja. The rice fields and the bird life here with a variety of fruit markets along the way. You would want to stop buy or mingle with the locals. This wonderful self drive is about 128kms and about 2 ½ hrs drive.

Day 15. Exploring Jinja town

Discover Jinja on your last day of the insightful self drive car rental in Uganda through the tourism capital of East Africa. You could opt to Raft the Nile, kayak the Nile, Bungy jump or just wind up your last self drive safari in Uganda relaxing at one of the lodges overlooking the River Nile. This 80km to Kampala is a 2hrs drive and a 40min drive to Entebbe from Kampala. Depending on your flight time, you can drive back to Kampala do a city tour or drive to Entebbe to a hotel or airport and one of our representatives could meet you over there to pick up the vehicle.
